Power to the insanity -- it's the only thing that keeps us sane.
I had no idea when I first said that what this insanity would spawn to. It probably doesn't help that I'm sitting here at 0130, both my roommates having gone to bed minutes before (gotta love the Commune), and I've flat out wasted probably four hours of the past twenty-four, plus seven hours doing various tasks in the microlab -- four operating outright (annoying as hell -- the phone, usually fairly quiet, rang every five minutes or more), one and a half hours taking microsteps getting a box ready as a prototype for the Linux lab while my RA -- also the project documenter -- scribbled notes on every single step, and another ninety minutes figuring out if the full-height, 5.25-inch SCSI drives the microlab inherited were worth anything. I haven't heard a drive purr like that since my pre-Defiant 286, which had a full-height, 5.25-inch MFM/RLL 30 meg drive. (Wow. That was actually kinda cool.) I expected nothing, but these four drives totaled about twenty gigs -- perfect to back up the mp3s and videos from the network. So was I trying to say something? Yeah. I finally discovered the first adverse effects of my serious sleep deprivation of the past week (besides occasionally sleeping through my alarm): my annoyance threshold has dropped. It takes less to bug me, less to throw me into an internalized fit of my being nearly ready to cuss out the next person who asks me why their computer won't print. That, and I found a box on the student network with all but five Simpsons episodes in Real Video format (a codec actually supported by a Linux-based player, conveniently enough), and have wasted a good amount of time lately watching various episodes. I can't even come up with a good reason why I'm doing this, simply that I can, and I feel like doing something crazier than normal.

Journaling is like quantum mechanics: the observation (or the knowledge of the observation -- a crucial difference here) subtly changes what one discloses.

To write of the rules would invalidate their existence. So we will not. But they can, and will, change, and evolve. Such is the way of things.
