End of April

Date: 2002-05-02 18:34:56

Four out of five graduate schools I've applied to have rejected me, leaving only Carnegie Mellon University, which proclaimed that they would tell me of their decision by "the end of April". That was two days ago, and I still haven't heard anything. I suppose I should e-mail them asking for details, but I'm not feeling ambitious enough at the moment. It seems entirely probable that I might not get accepted to CMU, so it would seem that I should investigate alternatives. I'm fairly confident that I can get a job at Spatial (at least if Jeff has anything to say about it), which would be great. Google seems to be hiring, so I tossed my resume along in their direction yesterday afternoon, since it was officially after the cutoff time for CMU to inform me of their decision. I'd also like to do something that deals just a little in hardware, too. (As long as I don't have to do anything with threshold voltages, I'll be happy.) So I sent my resume to Xilinx too.

I have two bottles of Bawls Guarana in Gem's fridge waiting to be consumed. I'll drink them when one of three things happens: (1) I get accepted to CMU; (2) I get a job at Google or Xilinx; (3) I finish my senior project. I'm scheduled to give my project completion speech on 21 May, so at least I'll be able to drink the sacred guarana beverage by then. (And then I have to do enough stuff to convince Dr. Aaby that I've done a worthy amount of stuff in the two classes I'm taking from him.)
