Gem is, for all intents and purposes, now Gem Marie Stone-Logan.

Yesterday (otherwise known as Friday), Gem and I wandered around Boulder talking to representatives of state and federal government and, just for fun, city government. When we reached the driver's license facility in the dinky little mall not far from the Boulder Compound, the line had almost looped around on itself outside the facility. After an epic queue, during which I read Wired 10.09, Gem finally managed to present the appropriate person with her Washington state driver's license, birth certificate, and marriage license, which combined to produce a brand new Colorado driver's license. Next stop was the Social Security Administration, where Gem took a number and waited until the one available civil servant processed the other relevant people. Gem presented the appropriate documentation (the Cowlitz County marriage license, lacking a raised seal, horribly confused both the State of Colorado Department of Revenue employee and the Social Security Administration employee) and got a piece of paper revealing that she will get a new card mailed to her within a few weeks.

I was scheduled to pick Willy up at school at 1500, after his first day at Fairview, so I wanted to stick around in South Boulder. The George Reynolds branch library was conveniently nearby, so we walked through the rather awkward Table Mesa Shopping Center (which actually was better to navigate on foot than I thought it would be) and successfully reached the branch. Gem's new Colorado driver's license was sufficient to get herself a library card, so next time she wants to read she doesn't have to use mine.

Just finished watching Spy Game. Great movie. I think I'll regenerate now, but first I'll give Bitscape something other than Martha Stewart to stare at when he clicks "reload".

bakterium. is back.
