Gem is currently listening to her first library science class for the school year right now. I have been told at least twice what it is, but I don't actually recall what it was. She's taking two classes this quarter, both on Wednesday afternoon into the evening. (This means that I'll usually get picked up for lunch on Wednesdays and drive Yoda back to iTi so I can actually get home sometime before 1900, as happened today.) Gem is also taking practicum at CU, which means she shows up three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) in the afternoon to Norlin and does reference stuff. She got introduced to an apparently-ancient cobol form on Monday; it apparently takes several hours for it to search a five million record database. (I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around exactly what hardware this could be running on -- a PDP-11, perhaps? This is the special interface given to those who need elite access to search on many fields; Norlin has a nice web-accessible catalog (which listed a bunch of PDP-11 books when I searched) that I'm assuming is running on some fairly modern hardware. (Netcraft reports it's running a Compaq Tru64. Mysteries abound.)

This means, basically, that I'm going to have to start doing a little more to prove my value around the house. Gem and I have yet to decide exactly what it is that each of us will be doing, but now that Gem is occupied as much on a daily basis as I am, I can't rely on her to do stuff in the afternoon (after she gets home from her church secretary job) any more.
