Spent most of the afternoon staring at a compiler trying to get a massive segment of the codebase to compile with warnings on to prevent implicit conversions between types. This is bad when one assumes that an int is capable of holding a pointer, which isn't true on certian (specifically, Microsoft) systems on sixty-four bit processors. This should be exciting. Played with template classes, drank a lot of coffee, and came up with a crazy project idea: write a small userspace driver to get pretty pictures to display on the POS monochrome monitor I have floating around, conviently connected to a POS computer known as Ganges. The purpose of this would be to have a webcam monitor if/when I get around to reinstantiating the webcam at home. (Willy requested it. I'm still trying to work out all of the complicated details, but I'm sure I'll figure something out.) The Peter Norton Programmer's Guide to the IBM PC, copyright 1985, was of suprisingly little help: it mentioned the existance of Hercules cards but failed to mention how to use them. Perhaps I'll scour the books at Spatial or scan the shelves at the local public library. (In case anyone cares, telnet to pac.boulder.lib.co.us to search my local public library's catalaog. I only figured this out by carefully watching the connect display while physically at the library.) Should be fun.USA Tour, Florida: 21 Days
