Kiesa went into preterm labor at 32 weeks, on Saturday night, 30 January. She ended up being airlifted to Denver and spent two weeks at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center. I visited her daily and brought takeout as an antidote to mediocre hospital food. When she turned 34 weeks last Thursday, she got another fetal lung maturity test and scored well enough that Calvin's lungs are considered mature. This means there's an excellent chance Longmont United Hospital will be able to provide him the care he needs if he were to be born immediately. I picked Kiesa up on Friday afternoon and brought her home. She's still on bedrest with oral medication to keep her contractions under control but it looks like she'll be able to keep Calvin in for another week or two. (At two weeks -- 36 weeks gestational age -- the doctors are confident Calvin will be fine.)

Kiesa has documented her side of the adventure at Weekend Excitement and Home Again.

I signed up for a Twitter account as "calvinsdad". My goal is to Twitter the birth in an attempt to quickly broadcast status updates to family (and anyone else bored enough to watch) so no one feels compelled to call me every hour for status. Whether or not this actually works remains to be seen.
