I got the idea for this movie while riding my bike around Lincoln on 19 September 1998. The following synopsis is an excerpt from my journal entry that day.

It stars a charcter like me who, several years before the actual story takes place, has a relationship with a charcter like the arch nemesis. He makes some breakthroughs in 3-d image processing and gets employed by a company who integrates his technology with their own holographic developments and continue to employ him. He builds a three-story room, roughly ten meters by twelve meters, with a pool on the bottom floor. The floors can move and reconfigure the room under a computer's control. The guy puts ccd cameras in all the walls and, with the assistiance of "a nice Beowulf cluster" (Linux product placement), he creates real-time holo images of the room.

This guy has a friend, a girl, whose house backs up to his. They have been good friends for years but never romantic friends. The girl, unaware of the hidden cameras, takes her boyfriend into the room for sex because she couldn't get away with it in her house. The main charcter almost walks in on them but realizes it just in time. The next day, he finds her in school and gets mad at her. That afternoon or evening, he tells her about the cameras and makes her cut a video of her sexual encounter. This event is the trigger event that changes him from a slightly odd guy to someone who goes way off the deep end. He gets a large number of ccd cameras and covertly places them in the arch nemesis' house. He runs some kind of high-bandwitdh line between their houses and entertains himself by watching her private life. He gets bolder and wires more of her house and her enviornment and even creates flying probes to record her life while she's outside.

The whole thing comes to a head when the guy gets even more strange and starts to broadcast the live feed. People start asking questions and he starts to get into legal trouble. The movie is narrated from his perspective, but I'm not sure how. Perhaps he testifies at his trial in court, or maybe he talks to his attorney(s) prior to any hearings. Maybe he is talking to the arch nemesis, either in a letter, into a video, or in person. Or maybe he's just looking back on the events from some unspecified time in the future.
