Us Versus Them script - draft 1, 18 March 1998


1	STARFIELD		1
	Opening credits on asteroids, etc. The Galatic flies by.
2	INT GALATIC BRIDGE		2
	The scene is overexposed, sugesting a dream. Subordiante officers at their consoles, doing work. Pan to Captian Logan on the loft.
3	BATTLE SCENE		3
	Flash of bright light, cut to battle scene on the bridge.
		LOGAN Status report. TATICAL Port shields down to seventy-three percent. Primary weapons systems are offline. LOGAN Evasive manuver fourteen. HELM Aye, sir. TATICAL They are coming around for another pass. LOGAN Target their weapon systems.
4	EXT GALATIC		4
	The alien ship, leaking fuel, moves in front of the Galatic and charges it.
5	INT GALATIC BRIDGE		5
	Logan climbs down the ladder and leans over a panel on the front of the bridge. He looks up into the window and sees the alien ship. He stands up as heis weapons straife the alien ship. The alien ship fires some weapon that hits him in the chest. He tries to scream, but he can't.
6	INT GALATIC ENGINEERING FLOOR		6
	Logan lies on the floor with a laser burn on his chest. He finally succeds in screaming. Cut to:
7	INT WILLY'S ROOM		7
	Resume normal lighting. Willy wakes up with a start. Max sticks his head in the door.
		MAX Are you coming, or not? Departure is required in half an hour.
	Pan around the room, showing various alien and sci-fi paraphanelia.
8	INT KITCHEN		8
	Wily huridly eats his breakfast.
9	INT HALLWAY		9
	Willy precariously carrying a bunch of stuff -- lego models, etc.
10	INT GARAGE		10
	Max in the driver's seat of the car with the garage door open. He plugs a patch cord between his neural interface jack and the car's jack on the cealing. Willy enters the car with his stuff and Max drives off.
11	EXT CAR		11
	montage as it drives to Heather's house
12	INT HEATHER'S LIVING ROOM		12
	Willy enters and dumps his stuff with Heather following closly. We see Jonathan at the table playing with something. Add dialogue here.
13	INT HEATHER'S ROOM		13
	Heather pulls out various toy weapons and comm equipment and hands them to Willy and Jonathan.
14	MAX DRIVING HOME		14
	He notices something in his rear view mirror, so he pulls over and sees something like a metorite.
15	MOUNTAIN - WILLY, JONATHAN, HEATHER		15
	spread out on bare mountain talking on radios.
		WILLY (v.o.) Captian's log. We have landed on the desolate planet whatever and are searching for rogue Spyrians who have incursed in our space. JONATHAN Captian, I belive we have something. WILLY On my way.
	Willy and Heather run to Jonathan's position and see a bush.
		JONATHAN Look at this, Captian. It appears to be schrapnel from their ship.
	Willy pulls out a "scanning device" and walks around the bush.
		WILLY It appears to have come from their starboard engine casing. JONATHAN Judginf from the trajectory, the ship should be... there.
16	MOUNTAIN - MAX		16
	climbs up to a ridge and looks.
17	MAX EYE VIEW - MOUNTAIN		17
	Pans and focuses and zooms on an alien spacecraft with aliens crawling around.
18	MAX		18
	pulls a cellphone out of his pocket and pushes a few buttons.
		MAX Yeah, can I talk to George? (pauses) George, this is Max. I saw something that I think you should have a look at... No, I can't tell you what it is. This is an unsecure line, you know. (pauses) Yeah, my house. Bye.
	Max puts the phone away and runs down the mountain.
19	MOUNTAIN		19
	Willy, Jonathan, and Heather run over hill in search of the Spyrians and see the aliens and their alien ship. Willy tries to run, but he is shot by an alien and falls down. Jonathan and Heather rush around him but are pulled away by more aliens.
20	GARAGE - MAX		20
	Max pulls out a padd and pushes a few buttons. We see the padd as he tracks Willy and his friends on the mountain as they go into a spacecraft and blast off. George pulls up.
		GEORGE Hey, Max, what's up? MAX The cealing. Aliens. GEORGE What? MAX You heard me.
	Max opens a cabinet and opens a secured weapons locker. He pulls out a couple of guns and hands them to George.
		GEORGE Wow, where'd you get all of this stuff? MAX Let's just say my government contacts want me to be well protected.
	Max takes one of the guns and goes over the systems.
		MAX This is the Elcom 48-C modulated ion cannon. It features multiple target acquisition, dual gyroscopical stabilization systems, a neural interface jack, and a laser targeting system. GEORGE Ok, and this will do what for me?
	Max picks up a brick and walks out into the street. He hands the brick to George.
		MAX Here, throw this.
	George throws the brick into the air and Max shoots it with the ion cannon. The brick falls to the ground unscathed.
		GEORGE Was that supposed to do anything? MAX If I threw your diskman up there, it wouldn't work anymore. GEORGE Would that be from the gun or the fall? MAX The gun.
21	EXT ALIEN POD		21
	as it leaves Earth's atmosphere and enters orbit.
22	INT ALIEN POD		22
	Willy, Jonathan, and Heather look out the window at Earth.
		HEATHER Well, I guess we get to be astronauts now, huh?
	The ship shifts and we see the alien mothership through the window.
23	EXT ALIEN POD		23
	as the pod flies towards the mothership and docks.
24	EXT CAR		24
	as Max and George drive to the alien landing site.
25	EXT MOUNTIAN		25
	Max and George carry high-tech weapons. They see a few alien pods flying around. Max destroys two with his wrist rocket and gets George to disable the other with his ion cannon. It crashlands, Max and George run over, and an alien comes out.
		MAX I've been studying their language. I think I can communicate with them. GEORGE Yeah, I hope so.
	Max holds a handgun to the alien's head and says something in an alien language.
		GEORGE What'd you say? MAX "Take me to your leader." Either that, or "Got a light, buddy?"
	The alien turns to Max, holds up his index finger, and a flame comes out of it. Max and George look at each other.
26	INT CELL		26
	The door opens and alien guards shove Willy, Heather, and Jonathan in. They fall to the floor and the door closes. Pan around the cell and see several alien races. A small alien species about 70 cm tall comes up and says something in their language.
		JONATHAN What did he say? WILLY I dunno.
	One of the aliens runs back and returns with a crude dish of food and sets it down. He sticks his finger in it and eats it. Cautiously, Willy does the same.
		WILLY Not bad.
	Jonathan and Heather crowd around and help themselves. One of the larger aliens comes over and intercepts another small alien carrying more food. Willy notices and stands up.
		WILLY That's not nice. Give me that.
	The alien is frightened and gives the tray to Willy, who shares it with the alien and his friends.
27	EXT POD		27
	as it, carrying Max and George, flies out of Earth's atmosphere and towards the alien mothership.
28	INT POD		28
	Max and George watching out the window as the mothership comes into view.
		GEORGE Do you have some sort of plan? MAX No. Don't bother me. I'm trying to think.
	The alien pilot shouts excitedly.
		GEORGE Well hurry up and invent one, because we're almost there. MAX I'm thinking, I'm thinking.
29	EXT POD		29
	as it flies towards the alien mothership and docks.
30	INT CELL		30
	Willy and friends slumped up aginst the wall. Willy repositions himself and hits something hard in his pocket. He pulls it out, and it's a small round blinking device. He studies it and returns it to his pocket.
31	INT ALIEN HALLWAY		31
	A door opens and Max and George step out. The door slides closed and the pod they stepped out of blasts away. George looks longingly at Earth far below. Max scans the area with something.
		MAX Come, on. We don't have all day. Down this way.
	He starts off and pulls George. They ready their weapons.
32	INT ALIEN CORRIDER		32
	Max and George, acting very much like commmandos, walk down the corridor until the reach a door with alien writing.
		GEORGE Can you read it? MAX I think so. It either says this is the bridge, or the head. GEORGE The head>? MAX The, um, facilities. GEORGE Aha. And this is where we have to go? MAX Yep. GEORGE How do we open it? MAX Stand back.
	Max steps back and readies his gun.
		GEORGE Wait, I have a better idea.
	He pushes a button next to the door and it opens.
		MAX Study up on alien design? GEORGE No, I just watch Star Trek.
33	INT ALIEN BRIDGE		33
	Max and George enter with amazement. The look slack-jawed at all the aliens around the bridge. Some WIllmark aliens are yelling at the evil aliens, who beat them up. Other aliens hang out.
		ALIEN Hey! What are you doing? GEORGE They speek English? How convient.
	Max pulls a small sphere from his pocket and activates it. It blinks and beeps.
		MAX I have here a small thermonuclear device. When I relese it, it will destroy this ship. GEORGE You're bluffing. MAX Not at all.
	After some though, the aliens stand down.
		MAX Now that that's settled, I'd like my brother and his friends.
34	INT ALIEN CORRIDOR		34
	Alien guards escort Max and George to the holding cell. The aliens open the cell door but push Max and George inside. The door shuts rapidly. Max and George sit on the floor.
		GEORGE Great. I always hate it when this happens. MAX You too? I guess I'm not the only one.
	Willy, Heather, and Jonathan come up.
		WILLY Welcome to the dunegon. Make yourself at home.
	George gets this huge smile but Max stops him.
		MAX Don't. JONATHAN Great rescue attempt. MAX Hey, I try. JONATHAN Not very hard.
	Max walks over the the wall and scans it.
		GEORGE Find anything? MAX This section of the wall is weaker. Stand back.
	Max opens his pack and hands Willy, Heather, and Jonathan weapons. Max connects his gun to his neural interface jack.
		MAX Ok, on three.
	The friendly aliens run up to Max's feet.
		WILLY Wait.
	He bends down to the aliens and communicates with them.
		WILLY They're friendly. They'll help. MAX How? WILLY Give them weapons.
	Max digs into his pack and finds a few handguns. He distrubutes them to the friendly aliens, who balence them in some ingenious way.
		MAX On three. One, two,
35	INT CORRIDOR		35
	The wall explodes in a ball of flame. When it clears, everyone steps out commando-style. They run down the corridor. Max stops and pulls out the detanator and arms it and sets it down.
		MAX Five minutes. HEATHER What's that? MAX A thermonuclear device. Let's go.
	They reach a door and Max tries to open it.
		GEORGE Allowe me.
	He ppushes the button next to the door and it opens.
36	INT ALIEN BARRAKS		36
	The door opens and our heros look into a massive barraks. Alien guards look up and grab their weapons and start shooting. Extended effects sequence as the heros shoot the guards.
37	MAX EYE VIEW		37
	as it tracks objects and aliens
38	INT ALIEN BARRAKS		38
	A few more shots fired and the heros stand up.
		MAX Three minutes, twenty-eight seconds.
	They walk through the carnage until a hideous "boss alien" comes up. A bar wall comes between Willy and the rest of the broup. Willy picks up a bar and it turns into a light saber when he wacks it. The boss pulls out a light saber and they have an extended battle sequence ending with Willy killing the alien. Willy cuts the wall open and all move to the exit.
		GEORGE How much time? MAX You don't want to know.
39	INT CORRIDOR		39
	Willy first, followed by Max. George takes up the rear. Alarm bells are going off. Some alien guards come out and are immediatly shot. The heros reach a door and stop in front of it. Max consults a padd.
		MAX This is our ticket home.
	George reaches for the nearby keypad but is shocked.
		MAX You have to be gentle with these things.
	He shoots the panel and the lights go out. He hits the wall and the door opens.
40	INT POD		40
	The heros enter and pour over the control panels. Willy closes the door. Max glances at his watch.
41	MAX'S WATCH - CLOSE UP		41
	showing it ticking from five seconds to two seconds.
42	INT POD		42
	Max and George examine the control panel and George finds a button. He pushes it, and the pod rockets away.
43	EXT POD AND SHIP		43
	The pod rockets away moments before the ship explodes into a giant fireball. The pod reenters Earth's atmosphere into the sunrise.
44	INT POD		44
	Our heros watch the sunrise through the window.
45	EXT POD		45
	The pod flies over Boulder and lands in Heather's driveway.
46	INT HEATHER'S LIVING ROOM		46
	The heros are joined by a number of people, both adults and kids. Different people tell their stories animatedly as others listen. The friendly small aliens run around on the table filled with food and examine the strange food. The Willmark aliens are in a group talking to some people. Max is standing off to one side. George walks up to him.
		GEORGE So we saved the world from aliens, huh? MAX Yeah, something like that. GEORGE I can see the headlines now -- "Teenagers save world from certian destruction." MAX I don't think they actually meant to take us over. They just picked the wrong planet to mess with, that's all. GEORGE The wrong person, you mean. You were awesome with all of your guns. What did you call that thing? An ion cannon, or something like that? MAX Yeah, that was the one. But the only reason I did it was because they messed with Willy. You mess with Willy, you better watch out.
	George laughs. Zoom far out, out to ext house, out to the planet. Start closing credits as view zooms out to solar system and finally to galaxy.
