Apparently it's been a very long time since I posted my last entry. I assure you I'm still alive and well (at least, mostly well, having caught a stomach flu last Friday and my second cold of the season as of noon today), if a bit bored by the lack of suitable recreational activities now that snow has fallen above ten thousand feet. I've been ramping up my training for a 5k race in December (it turns out I really can't run as fast as I could this spring, having run only in aerobic-maintenance mode all summer long) and concurrently ramping up my bike riding into work. Until last week (when I was sidelined by digestive distress) I rode, round-trip, twice per week from late September through mid-October. Recently I've been trying to nail down holiday plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas, in which all of the pieces I tried to arrange seemed like a complicated 3d puzzle where I'd think I had one part mostly resolved only to turn my back and find some of the pieces walking away while I wasn't watching. I think I finally figured it out; if I were at home tonight rather than attending Hacking Society I'd be trying to get tickets. (There are a couple of long entries I could/should write about the process that I might not actually get around to.)
My main project of late has been contemplating a move into Boulder, and trying to enumerate the things we need to do before we move. I recently decided that a move to Gunbarrel would optimize my daily commute more than a move into Boulder proper (assuming I stay employed at my current employer), so I asked my household CFO (Kiesa) to figure out when we could move and how much it would cost. She quickly created a giant amortization spreadsheet and then contemplated staging our house to sell it. I made a list of things I need to do to the yard, and then got sidetracked by cleaning the carpets on the main level. (We bought a carpet cleaner this spring and only managed to use it in the basement. On evenings this week, after Calvin went to bed, I've been dividing the main level into sectors and cleaning one sector at a time. The difference is impressive -- it's been a long time since we cleaned the carpets, and it shows.)
Our preliminary plans suggest moving sometime in the summer of 2012, giving me plenty of time to clean the carpets several more times, and for the housing market to do nothing at all.
