Tomato Hornworm

Posted by Linknoid on 2013-11-25 16:57:21

World-readable

The description of the tomato hornworm sounds identical to what my wife and I saw earlier this year. It took a lot of effort, since it moved around so quickly, but we managed to get a few decent pictures. I sent them separately in an e-mail if you wish to post any examples of what the adult looks like, since there's no way to attach images to comments. It took a long time (like an hour) for me to determine that it really was an insect, I finally saw it well enough to tell that it had 6 legs, and not two like a bird. But you can't really make the legs out in the pictures. A very fascinating example of convergent evolution with hummingbirds.
