Zombies made out of gingerbread
On the first day the kids were out of school for the Christmas holiday, Kiesa set the kids up making gingerbread and Christmas cookies.
In the midst of our global pandemic, "Christmas holiday" meant "we're still at home, but no longer trying to do school remotely". (Because the pandemic is currently surging to ridiculous levels, even as we try to wait for the vaccine that we all desperately hope will end this disaster, we stayed at home to avoid all contact outside our household.)
Kiesa made the dough and cut out the cookies, then gave them to Calvin and Julian to decorate with icing and candy. Most of the candy made it onto the cookies; only some was eaten.
Calvin, of course, made zombies.
(In case it's not obvious, this is a gingerbread zombie lurching to the right, with its arms stretching out in front to the right, with its dead-eyed stare (an M&M) and slack-jawed face looking to the right as it goes in search of brains.)
Kiesa, meanwhile, made an elaborate gingerbread house, with a steeply-sloping roof and windows made out of melted Jolly Racher candies and a chimney made out of gumdrops. (I neglected to get a picture of it, though, before we ate it shortly after Christmas.)
