Back when I was more agressive in my video-releasing habits, I discovered that there were two sucessive releases (a minor version number apart) of the official Divx codec where the first one did support mp3 audio tracks and the second one did not. Up to that point I had encoded all of my audio tracks as mp3 audio without any difficulties. I will have to investigate the matter furthur, although I suspect you would have no trouble at all playing the audio in Linux.
