Spots vs Distressed Wood

You may not like spots, but at least you don't despise them. Our dining room table (and chairs) have spots, which you seem to like, and the bedroom furniture set your mother tried to give us had spots, which I couldn't handle.
Spots that seem to be part of the wood grain itself are distinct from distressed wood. At least we can both agree that we don't like distressed wood.
